Andrew Wilson, who at 97 by some distance must have been the oldest surviving Observer journalist, has died. He was a loyal member of staff, going to Moscow late in his career after long service in several key roles. As this obituary recounts, Andrew embarked on a second life initially based on Moscow and Brussels and later Brussels: together with his second wife Nina he kept writing right to the end of his long life.
As I wrote last time, the national viral situation looks grim and our annual drinks (once attended by Andrew on a fleeting London visit) will inevitably not take place this year. But, as soon as we are able, we will organise a Fobs-lite get-together.
