In particular It wasn’t just “unprofessional” me who refused to write at Rowland’s corrupt behest. Every other single journalist in the building, including business editor Melvyn Markus, and investigative reporters Michael Gillard and John Merritt, also refused to touch this story. Only Adam succumbed, for whatever reason.
It was the entire journalists’ chapel which reported Donald to the so-called independent directors. Donald got away with it at the time by claiming Rowland as proprietor never pressured him to have the story published. He insisted instead it was all his own idea. This was a shocking untruth – but certainly a testament to those famous survival skills of “Wee Donny”.
